Hello, everyone! In today’s post, I will be sharing my personal top three favorite books on writing. I fully recommend each one of them and would be curious to see if any of you have picked them up yet. Let me know in the comments below!
Also, I've made a short YouTube video to compliment this post. If you would like to watch it, you may do so by clicking here.
Adorning the Dark - Andrew Peterson
This book is absolutely wonderful. As soon as you open the first page, you feel as if the author is allowing you to take a look right into his heart. He offers memories of his past in ways that make the reader feel touched and also brings forth so much truth about writing, life, and faith. I recommend this to anyone who wants to glorify God with their craft.
A Poetry Handbook - Mary Oliver
Though this book is not very long, it is filled with so much information. What I found especially interesting was that the author not only gave advice and tips on how to write poetry, but she also did the same for how to read poetry. While I learned quite a bit from the book and do recommend it, I also just want to point out that it does not contain any faith content.
Write Your First Novel - Steve Laube and Gilbert Morris*
From the second that I read the first page, I knew that I was about to work my way through a fantastic book. I loved the punctuality of the chapters and how they went back and forth between authors. I have gotten so much out of this book, and I know that I will be referring to many, many times in my future.
* Note: I haven't fully completed this title yet, though I've read enough and know enough about the book to confidently include it in my list.
These are awesome recommendations! We own Adorning the Dark, and I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks, Molly!
