If you are a writer, I am sure that you can say that there has been a time when you felt like you didn’t have any good ideas or couldn’t get words on paper. While there could be many reasons for this, the most common one is that you simply need a break.
While taking a break from writing doesn’t exactly sound useful, it is surely more so than sitting at your laptop, fingers hovering over keys, writing nothing. And keep in mind that taking a break doesn’t mean you don’t write for a week (though it could). It could mean that, for fifteen minutes, you do another activity. Here is a list of some things you could do:
Take a walk
Read a book
Listen to music
Of the three, the break I have found most beneficial is to take a walk. In fact, exercise, fresh air and different scenery seem to make me work more efficiently. I have gotten new story ideas, wrote poems and worked out problems with my tales all in my mind while walking.
Taking a break and resting is such an important thing that many writers (and people) forget to do. Remember that even God rested on the seventh day and He offers rest to those who come to Him. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
